ODE TO SPOON

Something sad happened in my kitchen recently. No it is nothing earth-shattering except to me. Maybe some of you can relate.......Do you have a kitchen tool that you find invaluable? I had a favorite mixing spoon. It was nothing special, just a hard plastic, white spoon. But, I loved it. It didn't have any give in it so it was perfect for mixing up cookies, cream puff dessert, or even frosting by hand. I probably got it about 10 years ago and ever since I have looked for another one but have never seen anything like it. I thought it was very sturdy but after we made popcorn balls the other night it got dropped on the floor and it broke in two. No, I won't lose any sleep over it, but yesterday I was mixing up some cookies and I have to say some of my joy was gone since my reliable friend was no longer there to assist. So, goodbye spoon. You served me well and even had the battle scars to prove it.

Mine was red... I lost it about 3 years ago, and had forgotten about it until now!

I really miss that spoon too. I remember the day she got her beauty mark. You were making Taco's. The meat was still slightly frozen. You stepped away to gather the lettuce from the refridgerator. The burner was on high. It was in the blink of an eye, a fraction of a second and the mark was made. However, it did not weaken "the spoon" it only made her stronger, more worthy, battle tested if you will. I tip my hat to you "spoon" you served us well. (slow clap here please)

You sound like Helen and her treasured Foley fork. Cost me $35.00 but I found a replacement on eBay. If you know who made your spoon, I bet you can find a duplicate on eBay too. I'm convinced you can buy most anything on eBay. Good hunting.

I felt the same way when my best spatula (rubber mixing kind) came apart. It was a 'pre-marriage' item and I loved it to no end. I have a new one that's the new-fangled one piece job, but it's not the same as my old one. Yet, we muddle through.
