Today in the spirit of learning more about people who have shown love to and sacrifice for others, we had the opportunity to attend a sculpture unveiling at the organization I work at Children's Square U.S.A. In December of 1882, Rev. Joseph Lemen and his wife took three young girls into their home when their alcoholic, widowed father could no longer care for them. That is considered the founding event in our agency's history. These sculptures depict this event. Thousands of children have been helped because of the willingness of the Lemens to help these three orphans.
This is the sculpture of Mrs. Lemen comforting the oldest girl.
This is the sculpture of Rev. Lemen holding the two younger girls.
This is the sculpture of the father walking away. (His back is to the rest of the sculptures.).
We also made a quick stop to see a display of gingerbread houses just for fun!
