God and the Wii
Camden: Mommy you are my life. (OK that really melted my heart.) Well, you and the Wii are my life. (At this point I'm slightly concerned.) Actually, you and daddy and the Wii are my life....and Claremarie, and Grandma Park and Grandma Holmes and Grandpa Park and Grandpa Holmes.
Me: I think you are forgetting someone very important.
Camden: God and Jesus. They are way more important than the Wii.
(Whew. At least something is sinking in besides how to conquer galaxies in Super Mario World.)

WARNING-POLITICAL VENTING AHEAD!!
Don't you just love all the people who are now calling for all of us to unite behind our President and to respect the office he holds? These are the same people who, for 8 years, have maligned, made fun of, disrespected and been unsupportive of our former president. It was unbelievable to me to hear how Pres. Bush was mocked when he walked out on the stage yesterday or the pot shots that Pres. Obama took at Pres. Bush during his hopeful, uplifting inaugural speech. It is just maddening. Maybe we should make a deal. We will be as respectful and kind to Pres. Obama as they were to Pres. Bush.
I actually heard a celebrity say on tv tonight how nice it is to actually have a first lady who puts the lady back into the title. Another one said what a great perk it is to actually have a good-looking first couple. Whew, I can rest easy tonight. Our country is in the hands of good looking people who the celebrities of the world approve of.
And the media-don't get me started. Are they more excited that we have our first African American President (which, I have to admit, is very cool-just wish it were Condi or J.C. Watts) or that the person, they worked so tirelessly to get elected, won? No crying on the air for Katie Couric this year. I'm also so tired of hearing Pres. Obama compared to Pres. Lincoln. How can he be like Lincoln. HE HASN'T DONE ANYTHING YET!!
Sam and I both got accused of being racist this week because we aren't happy about him getting elected. WHAT? Because we are critical of his ideology and proposed ideas we are bigots. Is that how it is going to be for the next 4 years? Anyone who disagrees with him is a racist? Not that anyone in the media will be questioning him since they are totally invested in him being a success and will do everything they can to ensure that. The only racist comments I heard yesterday were from the black preacher who gave the benediction. Oh, and don't e-mail me and tell me that comment is from an old slavery poem/song. I know that is the guise it is being excused under.
This is what I worry about (and if we can believe his campaign pledges, what he has pretty much promised to do):
a systematic, dismantling of our military,
giving terrorists the same rights as criminals,
nationalized health care,
his tendencies towards socialism (as evidenced by his radical associations),
indoctrination of our young children in nationalized pre-school programs,
raising taxes on those of us who actually work and giving more money to those who don't,
bigger government and more regulation of EVERYTHING,
the cult-like following he has among people who can't tell you ANYTHING about him or what he stands for, and I won't even get into to his liberal social agenda which I fear is where this country will be hurt the most.
I recognize that Pres. Obama is my president and I will pray for him and his family but as far as I know there has only been one man who walked this earth who could actually save anyone and it wasn't our new president.
On a lighter note, Claremarie came home from school yesterday and asked if she could watch C-Span. That made me laugh. Maybe politics will be her passion. Heaven help us if that's true.
Thanks for listening (if you made it this far).

DISCIPLINE NOW (read this like George's dad on Seinfeld saying Serenity Now!)
Not sure substituting one addiction for another is the right approach in the new year.
P.S. to all you friends who have blogs, that check this one, I listed you all under the mommy blogs section. If you don't want to be listed please let me know and I will delete you (not you, your blog :-) or if I have accidentally left you off and you want to be added let me know that too.

SIMPLE THINGS
Unhurried family time on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning.
Chocolate balls wrapped in foil (found at World Market) and hung on the tree before the kids woke up Christmas morning. What a hit!!
Every time the topic of Santa, presents, etc would come up Camden would always say, "But Jesus is the most important thing right mom?"
Claremarie found out, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Santa isn't "real" but she was a real trooper and played along for Camden's sake.
Spending two afternoons decorating wooden ornaments, found at Michaels for $1.00, to give to Grandparents, Aunts, and Uncles.
Finally having a batch of fudge turn out, not to mention perfect chocolate crinkles, and trying a new dessert, eggnog cheesecake, which was a hit.
A new book given to Claremarie, for her collection, called We Believe in Christmas. What lovely illustrations.
Your cards, letters, and pictures. I love, love, love them. Getting mail was so much fun in December and I don't even throw the pictures of your kids away.
Giving thanks for such wonderful memories.
